How Marketing with Content Differs from Blogging

How Marketing with Content Differs from Blogging

Marketing with content is a familiar and effective strategy used by many organizations to offer useful information about their products and services! This strategy is great for new business development as well as building relationships with existing customers as well! How this strategy differs from publishing blog posts is to be the topic of our discussion here today! Although blogging and content marketing both rely upon publishing information to achieve their goals, it is the way in which they do so that makes them different!

Here are 3 fundamental differences between how ‘traditional’ bloggers and content marketers develop and use the information they publish!

Intent

Clearly the intent of content marketing is to establish a strategic approach focused on creating and distributing valuable, relevant, and consistent content to attract and retain a clearly-defined audience! In the vast majority of cases using content in this way is for the intention of new business development! Blogging on the other hand is more ‘whimsical’ in nature and although bloggers can use their site for marketing as well, their approach is NOT as structured! Topic selection for bloggers typically focuses on whatever is currently popular and loosely relevant to the theme of their platform! Distributing content to market a business, product or service however demands using subject matter more closely related to what it is you’re promoting!

Internet Real Estate

Blogging uses a specified location or platform on which it displays thoughts, ideas, observations and opinions relevant to the central theme of the blog itself! Content marketers find ‘several’ avenues to ‘park’ their content, much like using a net for fishing, and they offer useful information that is much more target specific in terms of their audience! Instances of marketers distributing their content merely for new business development can be found all over online such as social media sites, ads on YouTube (ugh) or even in forums! Blog posts, well they can be found on blogs, imagine that!

Strategy

Content marketing is more a LONG term strategy targeting people at different stages of the buying process with useful information that focuses on helping them with their buying decisions! This strategy involves varying types of content presented in a systematic way to help people make more informed and comfortable decisions! When publishing blog posts however there tends to be a dramatic shift in terms of the topic presented which could be something as benign as simply offering an opinion or rant! Bloggers are more focused on reader loyalty and developing a following while content marketers are focused on new business development, plain and simple!

Businesses find marketing with content a very effective strategy that helps identify and attract people with an interest in their products or services! The idea behind this strategy is to offer useful information about products and/or services being promoted so that people can make more informed purchasing decisions! Above we discussed how content marketing actually differs from ‘traditional’ blogging! Publishing blog posts is NOT about sharing information for the sake of new business development! The long and short is although both blogging and content marketing focus on creating and sharing information, as discussed above, in the end, their intentions and distribution strategies are fundamentally different! The one thing that still remains true however is content continues to be the dominant ‘currency’ used by both individuals and large corporations to be noticed online!

The Point Behind Marketing with Content

The Point Behind Marketing with Content

Marketing with content has become an accepted and popular business marketing strategy for many compelling reasons! Back in the day hard or pushy sales tactics were the norm but not anymore! Today consumers are much more curious and cagey and they DEMAND information they can use to make purchasing decisions! The role of content in marketing today is to offer information people are looking for and to do so freely! In time you will even become an authority in the eyes of the folks who read what you wrote and with this comes great influence! So how exactly does this strategy work?

Below let’s now discuss the 7 steps your content must offer and/or achieve to make it such an effective online marketing strategy!

Gain Attention

Topic selection is always key to how popular what you’ve created will be with readers! The idea here is to focus on a subject that is currently relevant and hopefully of great interest to your target audience! Once you’ve gained the attention of readers, provided the context of what you wrote is helpful and/or otherwise informative, these people will either subscribe to your list or at least look for more from you! Remember, after you’ve taken the time to research and compose your content, focus on crafting a catchy headline that will compel people to take the time to read more!

Gain Trust

Most of the information you are circulating online as part of your business marketing strategy should first and foremost hold relevance to your field! Secondly but no less important, the role of content you are offering should be helpful to viewers and should NOT be peppered with product offers or other more aggressive sales tactics! Your purpose is to HELP others and freely so that they come to trust you and even look to you for further advice, tips and/or suggestions!

Increase Influence

After trust is built and viewers have found the information you have given them to be helpful, you as the author tend to become an authority in their eyes! Having credibility like this makes you more influential with readers as they become increasingly more comfortable with you and it is this part of the relationship building process that is so critical! Gaining influence in this way is why this business marketing strategy works so well!

Offer Solution

Most people are searching for information online to help them solve a problem or learn something new!As we mentioned above the content you offer should be of relevance to your field, niche or industry and since people are looking for information in YOUR field, you’re in the perfect position to help! It is only natural to seek out someone with expertise in a particular field if you’re looking for answers or advice! Guess what since you’ve already become an authority, at least in the eyes of your readers, by circulating so much good information, you’re the expert they’re likely to rely upon! Whether it is a product specifically designed to address your readers problems and/or questions or perhaps it may be further information you can supply, always try to help your readers solve their problems!

Help Others

The main intention or role of content is primarily to help others in some way, be it through laughter, useful information or thought provoking comments or ideas! This is the HOOK you use to gain trust and influence with readers and the biggest reason this business marketing strategy works so well! Always look for ways to be helpful and people will flock to you like the Pied Piper!

Increase Marketing Effectiveness

As a businessperson, at some point you’ll want to make some product offers because, in the end, you need to make sales! Now that you’ve got the trust of others coupled with the influence you’ve earned, people will be much more comfortable and receptive to your suggestions or offers! In fact persuasive sales tactics are not typically needed with influence like yours and in many cases sales can be made by simply ‘suggesting’ or recommending a product! You gotta like that, especially if asking for the sale makes you uncomfortable!

Establish a Following

For anybody working online, it is ALWAYS easier to build a business and of course make sales if you have a following! Whether people subscribe to your blog or list, you now have direct access to folks who have shown an interest in what you do or promote! Although the role of content has grown tremendously with marketers and the search engines over recent years, NEVER overlook the importance of having followers or a list…or both!

5 Fears That Hold You Back and Why

5 Fears That Hold You Back and Why

Do you have fears that hold you back from trying new things that may improve your life either personally or professionally? Well it is NOT uncommon for you or anybody else to experience the feeling of anxiety once you’ve left your comfort zone to try something new! We all have certain self-doubts that inhibit our abilities to take action in particular areas and being paralyzed by fear in this way will keep you from experiencing a fuller life! The first step in overcoming fears like these is to recognized what they are and why they keep us from taking action!

Here are 5 very common fears that can and will limit the amount of success and happiness you can experience in your life and why they do so…

Success

Being successful at anything usually takes hard work and dedication but even this does NOT guarantee success will be yours! Another thing to consider is that once you’ve achieved any measure of success, expectations of YOU will increase and this can therefore apply more pressure to many people due to higher expectations of them! Success also tends to ‘push’ people closer to the limelight and although this type attention is commonly desired, some people place a high value on their privacy and may find the attention invasive! The above scenarios all point to the discomfort associated with being removed from your comfort zone and having to adjust to newer and higher standards!

Failure

The ‘flip-side’ of success is of course failure and many are understandably paralyzed by fear that if they attempt anything new they will fail! For starters failing to achieve your goals, whatever they may be, is a humbling experience! The realization that despite your efforts yours goals were not reached is a wake-up call to not only your ego but also the fact that you may have over-reached your potential requiring you to lower your own expectations, ouch! Possibly the biggest reason we all fear failure is the embarrassment associated with others being aware of your less than successful efforts thereby diminishing your sense of worth! In this case many may feel it is better NOT to try than to try and fail!

Commitment

Many have a fear of commitment due to what they may feel is a loss of their ‘current’ freedom by taking on new long-term responsibilities! Some people feel they just don’t have anymore room in their lives for additional responsibilities while others simply feel this commitment will keep them from pursuing other opportunities that may present themselves! These people just want to keep their ‘options’ open in hopes better things still await them! Dreamers like this will typically always try to avoid committing to anything including any associated responsibilities!

Change

For many, no matter what the current status of their lives may be, the fact remains that they are familiar with what to expect! Being in your comfort zone does NOT always mean you’re doing well but rather you are ‘settled’ in your current existence and have learned to make do with it! Change is often good although sometimes it may not be, but the fact is change can be very unpredictable and who wants to deal with that?

Death/Injury

This particular fear is simple to understand, it’s called self-preservation and most every living mammal or otherwise possesses this instinct! Only extreme thrill seekers will intentionally put themselves in harms way just for the sake of the experience and/or adrenaline rush! Most people would literally be paralyzed by fear when facing situations, intentionally or otherwise, that could lead to injury or death! Actually this is a very healthy fear to have and is one that I too possess!

Having fears that hold you back in any part of your life can typically be attributed to you venturing from your comfort zone! In many cases, fearing change like we just referred to above, can easily be overcome, but when you’re paralyzed by fear or the feeling of anxiety, obviously the issues behind these fears are more deeply rooted! By identifying what is holding you back and understanding the reasons why, you’re in a much better position to take the necessary corrective actions as we discussed above! Look, life is to be enjoyed and fully experienced, but remaining on the sidelines due to your doubts or fears will only limit the amount of success and joy you ‘allow’ into your life! Take action now and get the hell out of your comfort zone so you can fully participate in the life you have been given!

5 Mistakes Holding You Back From Being More Productive

5 Mistakes Holding You Back From Being More Productive

Are you aware your efforts to work hard may be holding you back from being more productive with your work day than you already are? That’s true! When you take the time to plan your day, as I’m sure you do, your mind should be on accomplishing the most important tasks and/or issues needing your attention! Perhaps however your focus on ‘grinding it out ‘ to get more done is hindering your efforts to accomplish more?

Here are 5 common YET noble mistakes many make, self included, that tend to holds us back from being more productive at work…

Overzealous To-Do List

When you plan your day be realistic with your expectations about what you have scheduled! It’s one thing to be ambitious however if you set goals that are out of your reach, aren’t you just wasting your time? When scheduling your work day it is wise to considered the time you have along with your own capabilities to actually complete everything on your list! Sure you think by overloading your work day schedule will help you get more done however having a huge list can also be a distraction that leads to frustration! How would you feel if you hardly completed a full list of scheduled priorities, pretty frustrated I’ll bet! Well this ‘continued’ frustration can easily lead to something worse such as you giving up, do you want that? Essentially you are setting yourself up for failure when you overload your day with too much to do!

Not Scheduling Breaks

Although breaks may seem, at least on the surface, to be non-productive, this could NOT be further from the truth! Understandably we don’t associate being more productive with planning breaks for ourselves but we can NOT expect to be at our best without taking occasional breaks to at least give our minds and eyes a rest! Why do you think people sleep every night, for lack of nothing better to do?

Sucking It Up

Working through breaks or skipping meals just to get more done is NOT a good idea although it is admirable because more mistakes are made due to both mental and physical fatigue. Think about this in terms of stock car racing in which the main intention of any racing team is focused on sticking to a schedule of ‘preventive’ stops for the car so it will continue to operate smoothly! These crew members want to avoid surprises and also want to be sure their vehicles are equipped and fueled so they will finish STRONG! Additionally, being hungry or tired can also promote a bit of haste to finish what you’re doing so you can satisfy your needs and this can also open the door to making mistakes! When hungry, eat, when tired, rest…pretty simple!

Multitasking

If you want to get the job done right than you need to focus on what you’re doing or your results will suffer and your use of time will not be efficient! Multi-tasking although it does make you feel much busier, is NOT the recommended course to take if being more productive is your ultimate goal! Switching back and forth between tasks not only disrupts your focus but it also wastes time! Tasks take longer to complete and surprise surprise, due to your fractured focus, mistakes tend to occur!

Perfection

Trying to be perfect is another admirable trait however it is NOT very realistic to always expect perfection! In fact always trying to get things to be ‘just so’ is a tremendous time suck that can literally drive you crazy! If you are serious about being more productive with your time than learn to accept results that are good enough to get the job done and forget trying to get perfect results! You’re only fooling and frustrating yourself……….

Are your own admirable work ethics holding you back from being more productive with your work day? As we explored above, even as you plan your day you ‘may’ be sabotaging your efforts to get more done simply by overlooking your primary source of productivity, YOU ! By overworking and under appreciating your own time and efforts, you may limit your ability to get more done due to your nitpicking and unrealistic expectations that will NOT get you to where you want to be! Work smarter!
